STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (C) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.307 TO BE ANSWERED ON 21-12-2015 REGARDING INTERNATIONAL GAS PIPELINES.
(a) and (b) The Government is actively pursuing the Turkmenistan-Afghanista-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which will bring Natural Gas from Turkmenistan to India through Afghanistan and Pakistan. The ground breaking ceremony of Turkmen leg of the TAPI pipeline was held at Mary, Turkmenistan on 13th December, 2015, wherein the Shareholders Agreement (SHA) of the Pipeline Consortium, TAPI Pipeline Company Limited (TPCL) was signed.

The updated Penspen Report with revised cost estimate is yet to be received. The final Capex and the total project cost will become known only after completion of FEED to be undertaken as part of the pre- FID studies.
India and Russia have also set up a Joint Study Group to explore the possibility of a pipeline system to transport natural gas from Russia to India. The first meeting of the group was held in November, 2015 in Moscow.
GAIL (4.1735%) and OVL (8.347%) are the Indian entities that have stakes in the Myanmar China gas pipeline company known as South East Asia Gas Pipeline Corporation Limited (SEAGP) which was formed on 25th June, 2010. This pipeline transports gas produced from A1 to A3 blocks from Ramree Island to Namkhan at Myanmar-China border.

However, the actual demand is price sensitive and total utilization during 2014-15 was 116.78 (73.93 MMSCMD domestic and 42.85 MMSCMD R-LNG) against the existing pipeline capacity of 431.288 MMSCMD.
