Question : SETTING UP OF ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS



(a) whether the Government proposes to set up 350 additional Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas in the country;

(b) if so, the number of students belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes and minorities likely to be benefited by the new schools; and

(c) the funds earmarked and its expected time of completion?

(a) to (c) : Government of India has approved 430 additional Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) on 1st February, 2006 within the total allocation for the KGBV Scheme for the Tenth Plan. In view of the targeted nature of the scheme, a minimum of 75% of the enrolment is reserved for girls from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Minorities in these KGBVs. Around 32,400 girls are likely to be enrolled in these schools.
