Question : ENVIRONMENT CLEARANCES TO SRINAGAR HYDROPOWER PROJECT



(a) whether environment clearance to the Srinagar Hydropower Project has been given for a 63 metre high dam;

(b) if so, whether the developer is making a 90 metres high dam;

(c) if so, whether Ministry modified the Environment Clearance to the project and allowed making of 90 metre high dam;

(d) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(e) if not, the action Ministry proposes to take if the project is illegally making a 90 metre high dam?

(a) The environmental clearance accorded to the Srinagar hydro electric project in Uttarakhand on 3rd May, 1985 does not indicate the height of the dam.

(b)&(c)As per information available in the Ministry, the project developer is constructing a 90 metre high dam as approved by the Central Electricity Authority and the environmental clearance accorded by the Ministry has not been modified.

(d)&(e)Do not arise, in view of the replies to parts (b) and (c).
