Question : Twenty-Second Law Commission

(a) whether the timeline drawn for appointment of the 22nd Law Commission has not been maintained and if so, the reasons therefor;
(b) whether any steps have been taken by the Government to make the Law Commission more gender inclusive by including women and LGBTQIA+ communities therein;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to make Law Commission a statutory body with regular appointments and gender inclusive procedures and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): The Cabinet has approved for the constitution of 22nd Law Commission of India for a term of three years w.e.f. 21st February, 2020.
As per the notification dated 21.02.2020, no time limit has been drawn for appointment of Chairperson, Full-time and Part-time Members in the Commission.
(b) to (d): It is the endeavor of the Government that appointments in a body need to be inclusive in character, with participation of all sections of society. Also, there is no proposal with the Government to make Law Commission a statutorybody.
