Question : HEALTH HAZARDS OF MOSQUITO REPELLANTS

(a) whether the Government propose to set up an independent review task force to look into the health hazards of the mosquito repellants;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons thereof?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS ( SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR)

(a) to (c): The Registration Committee constituted under Section 5 of the Insecticides Act 1968 which is administered by Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture registers a pesticide after satisfying itself regarding the efficacy and safety to human beings and animals. Therefore, mosquito repellant formulations which are registered under the Act do not pose any health hazards to human beings if they are used in the manner as prescribed by the Registration Committee. Hence, there is no proposal to set up an independent review task force to look into the health hazards of the mosquito repellants.
