Question : Drinking Water in SC-ST dominated Areas

(a) the details of the rural water supply and sanitation schemes/projects being implemented in the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) dominated areas of the country State/UT-wise including Gujarat, Rajasthan and Odisha;
(b) the details of the funds released and utilised under these schemes in SC/ST dominated areas during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise; and
(c) the details of the progress made in these areas under drinking water and sanitation schemes during the said period, State/UT-wise?

(a) to (c) As rural drinking water supply is a State subject, the State Governments are vested with powers to select, plan, approve and implement drinking water supply schemes. Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation through National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) supplements the efforts of States to provide drinking water to rural population by providing technical & financial assistance. Under NRDWP, 22% and 10% funds are earmarked for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes habitations.

State / UT-wise details of funds released and utilized along with details of achievements (Nos. of habitations) made in SC & ST dominated areas including States of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Odisha during last three years and current year are at Annexure-I & II respectively.

Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) {SBM(G)}, the projects are sanctioned district-wise. Currently, 643 district sanitation projects have been sanctioned. The State/UT wise details is at Annexure-III. Since sanitation programmes are demand driven, State/UT-wise targets are not set. However, State/UT-wise Individual household latrines (IHHLs) constructed for SCs and STs during the last three years and the current year as on 7-3-2016 is at Annexure-V.
Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), 22% and 10% funds are earmarked for SCs and STs respectively. State/UT-wise, Central share released for SCs and STs during last three years and current year as on 7-3-2016 is at Annexure-IV.
