Question : Smart Class in Rural Areas

(a) whether the Government has conducted any audits on the coverage, status and functionality of smart classes in rural areas of the country;
(b) if so, the details of when such an audit was last conducted and from where the report of the same can be accessed; and
(c) the details of budgetary allocations, approvals, and utilisations for smart classes under various schemes, year- wise from 2019 till date?

(a) to (c): Education is in the concurrent list of the Constitution and majority of the schools, are under the domain of respective State and UT Governments. Central government maintains Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) data on certain parameters for all state/UTs, such as number of ICT labs, Internet connectivity, etc.
The ICT Labs/Smart Class Rooms are approved in schools under the centrally sponsored scheme of Samagra Shiksha. State/UT wise, details of financial allocation/approval & utilisation, year-wise for years 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 under the scheme are at Annexure.
