(a) the total requirement, production and actual consumption of fertilizers in the
country during the last three years till 2000; State-wise and product-wise;
(b) whether import of fertilizers have been made during the aforesaid period; and
(c) if so, the details thereof ?

(a) : The details regarding State-wise production in nutrient terms in last 3 years are
given at Annexure-I. The requirement/consumption product-wise of fertilizers during the
last 3 years are given at Annexure-II to V.
(b) & (c): Urea being the only controlled fertilizer, its imports are canalised and made on
Government account. The other major fertilizers which are imported are Di-ammonium
Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MOP). Their imports are free and made on
private account. The imports are made to bridge the gap between indigenous availability
and the demand. Details of imports of these fertilizers in the last 3 years are given at
Annexure-VI.
