(a) The average annual rainfall in the country is 117 centimetre and in
Tamil Nadu 106 centimetre.
(b) to (d) Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has carried out studies
for re-assessment of hydropower potential in the country during 1978-1987.
According to these studies, the hydropower potential of the country is 84044
Mega Watt (WM) at 60% load factor. The Ultimate Irrigation Potential of the
country has also been reassessed by the Ministry of Water Resources as
139.89 million hectare. State-wise details of the assessement, creation and
utilisaiton of irrigation potential and assessment and development of
hydropower potentials in the last three years are given at Annexure-I and
Annexure-2 respectively.
