Question : EXPORT OF BASMATI RICE



(a) Whether the process of export of aromatic Basmati rice could not be taken up in the schedule time and is delayed for about two months ;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) the estimated quantum of Basmati rice likely to be exported during this season; and

(d) the steps being taken by the Government to find the market for Indian Basmati rice?

(a) No, Sir.

(b) Does not arise.

(c) It is not possible to estimate the likely quantum of basmati rice exports, as export of basmati rice would depend upon international demand and supply position, domestic demand and supply position, international and domestic prices, consumer preferences and varieties traded.

The total quantity and value of basmati rice exported during the last three years is as under:-

(d) Some of the steps taken to increase the export of basmati rice exports, include conducting publicity campaigns, sending delegations abroad, participating in International trade fairs, inviting potential buyers and providing financial assistance to exporters for improving quality, packaging, brand promotion of products and for conducting market surveys.
