Question : REFORM IN RAILWAY POLICING SYSTEM



(a) whether attention of the Government has been drawn to the news item captioned “Call to reform Railways policing system” appearing in the Times of India dated April 8, 2000;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the time by which these reforms are likely to be carried out; and

(d) the extent to which the new reform in policing system is likely to help in checking the untoward incidents in the trains.

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) to (d) A High Level Committee on Security on Railways has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chairman Railway Board with representatives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab and West Bengal. Further reforms in the existing system will be decided on the availability of the report of the Committee.
