(a) whether the Government propose to reduce poverty levels by 5 percentage
points by 2007 and by 15 percentage points by 2012, universal schooling by
2003 and to provide all villages with sustained access to potable water; and
(b) if so, the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) The Planning Commission, in its Approach Paper to the Tenth Five Year
Plan has proposed the following as some of the Monitorable Targets of the
Tenth Plan :
(i) reduction of poverty ratio by 5 percentage points by 2007 and by 15
percentage points by 2012;
(ii) all children in school by 2003; all children to complete five years of
schooling by 2007;
(iii) all villages to have sustained access to potable drinking water within the
plan period.
(b) Tenth Five Year Plan is under formulation and the steps to be taken by the
Government in this regard would be mentioned in the Tenth Plan document.
