Question : GEOLOGICAL PARKS



(a) whether the Union Government has received any proposal from the State Government of Kerala to declare the great Varkala Cliffs as geological park;

(b) if so, the details and the status thereof; and

(c) the time by which a final decision is likely to be taken by the Union Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINES & STEEL (SHRI VISHNU DEO SAI)

(a) to (c) : Ministry of Mines has received a request from the State Planning Board, Government of Kerala regarding declaration of the Varkala Cliff as a National Geological Monument. Geological Survey of India [GSI], an Attached Office of Ministry of Mines, has issued a Resolution on May 28, 2014 declaring Varkala Cliff, Kerala as a National Geoheritage Site and requested the Government of Kerala to issue an appropriate Notification for protection and conservation of this Geoheritage Site.
