Question : Technology Development Centres

(a) whether the Government proposes to upgrade and expand the network of Technology Centres (TCs) / Tool Rooms and Technology Development Centres in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise including the details of the upgradation of the existing TCs and setting up of 15 new TCs under the Technology Centre Systems Programme in the country;

(c) the expenditure likely to be incurred thereon, State/UT-wise; and

(d) the extent to which these TCs are likely to benefit the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the country and the progress made so far in this regard?

(a): Yes, Madam.

(b)&(c): The Government has approved ‘Technology Centre Systems Programme (TCSP)’ for establishing 15 new Technology Centres (TCs) and upgrading the existing TCs. The estimated cost of the Programme is Rs.2200/- Crore including World Bank loan of USD 200 Mn for Programme duration of 6 years. The State/UT-wise details are at Annexure-I.

(d): The TCSP envisages providing benefits to approximately 60,000 MSMEs per annum. The Programme Management Unit (PMU) and Construction Management Consultant (CMC) have been engaged. The contracts for construction of building of eight new TCs (Bhiwadi, Durg, Bengaluru, Rohtak, Pudi, Puducherry, Baddi, Sitarganj) and one existing TC (Bhubaneswar) have been signed. Construction activity has started. 46 machines for upgradation of three existing TCs (Mumbai, Aurangabad & Bhubaneswar) have been procured.
