Question : National Policy for Heavy Industries

(a) whether the Government has formulated any National Policy for the development of heavy industries in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of heavy industries functioning in various parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir;

(d) whether there is any scheme to set up new heavy industries in the country including Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir so as to check the migration of unemployed youth in the country; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The Department of Heavy Industry (DHI) launched a scheme for the ‘Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector’ in the year 2014 to strengthen technology development infrastructure in the Capital Goods Sector. This is a Pan-India scheme.

DHI has also launched a Mission Plan relating to Heavy Electrical Industry Sector, i.e., Indian Electrical Equipment Mission Plan 2012-2022.

(c): This Department does not maintain data regarding number of heavy industries functioning in various parts of the country.

(d) & (e): This Department does not have any such scheme.
