Question : Gas Reserves in Vashista Gas Field

(a) whether the Vashista and S1 Gas fields located in Krishna Godavari (KG) offshore basin have started operations and if so, the details thereof along with per day production target fixed and achieved by the Government during the last two years and the current year;
(b) the estimated reserves in the Vashista and S1 Gas fields located in Krishna Godavari (KG) offshore basin; and
(c) whether the Government has fixed/ laid any pipeline for transmission of gas from these fields to an onshore terminal and if so, the details thereof along with the price fixed for the gas extracted from the said fields?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE (I/C) IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM & NATURAL GAS (SHRI DHARAMENDRA PRADHAN)
(a). Vashista and S1 Gas fields located in Krishna Godavari (KG) offshore basin have started Gas Production from 25th May, 2016 from one well i.e. S2-AB. The current gas production rate is about 0.9 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters per Day). The project is still under implementation and is likely to be completed by December, 2017. The actual gas production during FY 2016 -17 till 31.12.2016 is about 146 MMSCM against the target of 354 MMSCM for the entire year.
(b). The estimated reserves in the Vashista and S1 Gas fields located in Krishna Godavari (KG) offshore basin as on 01.04.2016 are tabulated below:
Field
Reserves
(in Billion Cubic Meters)
S-1 Field
7.80
Vashista Field
9.69
Total
17.49
(c). ONGC is laying dual 14” transmission pipeline of 47 Kms from these offshore fields to its own onshore terminal at Odalarevu. Presently, the gas is being transported through the existing pipelines for G-1 field.
Government of India vide guidelines dated 21.03.2016, allowed the pricing (with a ceiling price) and marketing freedom for gas to be produced from Deep water/Ultra Deep water/High Pressure-High Temperature areas w.e.f. 01.01.2016. Presently, the Ceiling price of gas produced from such fields is USD 5.30/MMBTU on GCV (Gross Calorific Value) basis applicable for the period 01.10.2016 to 31.03.2017. ONGC is selling gas from S1 field to GAIL at a price of USD 5.05/MMBTU (Million British Thermal Units) on GCV basis valid up to 31.08.2017.
