Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT (SHRIMATI RENUKA CHOWDHURY)

(a)&(b) No, Sir. The “Anganwadi Karyakartri Bima Yojana” was launched by Government of India in the year 2004-05 as a Social Security Group Scheme of Life Insurance Corporation of India. The Scheme is intended to cover the risk benefits of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers. The premium amount of Rs. 280/- per beneficiary per annum is shared as under:

(i) Rs. 100/- from the Social Security Fund of LIC

(ii) Rs. 100/- by Government of India

(iii) Rs. 80/- by the Anganwadi Worker/Helper (Insured Member)

It has been decided to waive off Rs. 80/- as the share of the premium from the Anganwadi Worker/Helper for a period of two years from the year 2007-08. The Government of India releases funds to the LIC towards its premium contribution. The funds are therefore, not released to any State Governments and UTs by GOI.

The year-wise funds released to LIC from 2004-05 till 2007-08 are as under:
Year	Amount
2004-05	Rs. 5.00 Crore
2005-06	Rs. 8.00 Crore
2006-07	Rs. 12.00 Crore
2007-08	Rs. 2.00 Crore (as required by LIC)
