Question : OBC Reservation in National Law Universities

(a) whether the Government has taken note that Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation is not being provided in at least 15 National Law Universities (NLUs) in the country, if so the reasons therefor;

(b) the latest data regarding number of vacancies meant for recruitment of SC/ST/OBC professors in National Law Universities that have been filled up, State-wise and year wise;

(c) whether any data is being maintained with respect to the total number of SC/ST/OBC professors in NLUs, if so, the details thereof, category–wise along with the NLUs that are providing the complete 27 percent of reservation quota;

(d) whether all the NLUs have implemented 27 percent quota reservation for OBCs, if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise; and

(e) whether any measures have been taken to ensure the implementation of the Central Educational Institutions Act (2006), National Commission for Backward Classes orders and University Grants Commission guidelines to provide the constitutional right of reservations to OBCs, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e) National Law Universities have been established under the Acts enacted by the respective State Legislatures and as such they are the State Universities. The reservation policy of the Government of India in respect of SC/ST & OBCs is only applicable to the Central Educational Institutes established, maintained or aided by the Central Government.
