Question : Financial Assistance for NHs

(a) whether the Government has allocated additional financial assistance for the construction, expansion and maintenance of bridges and over bridges on the National Highways in the country including Maharashtra during the last three years, till date, State-wise;

(b) if so, the details thereof including that of backward and tribal regions; and

(c) the concrete steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) and (b) Allocation for development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) are made to States/ Union Territories(UTs), different agencies such as National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), etc. However, no separate allocations are made for the construction, expansion and maintenance of bridges and over bridges on the NHs in the country including Maharashtra. Further, activities of road development are not taken up on the basis of demographic or regional patterns in the country.

(c) The development and maintenance of NHs, including construction, repair and rehabilitation of bridges and over bridges on NHs, is a continuous process and taken up from time to time depending upon requirement of connectivity, inter-se-priority and availability of funds.
