Question : DEVELOPMENT OF BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE BY STEEL PLANTS



(a) the details of the proposed steel plants willing to develop basic infrastructure in Orissa;

(b) the terms and conditions laid down for plantation while granting permission to establish steel plant in the State;

(c) whether they are willing to contribute towards the forest land to be degraded, air and water to be polluted and roads to be damaged on account of their establishment; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) A large number of entrepreneurs have made proposals to the State Government of Orissa to set up steel plants in the State. Normally, it is the responsibility of the State/Central Government to provide / develop supporting infrastructure for industries being set up. However, more and more infrastructure projects are now being planned through private - public partnership using BOT mechanism, creation of Special Purpose Vehicles and captive facilities.

(b)to(d): The issues like afforestation, environmental conservation and protection are taken care through implementation of relevant statutes relating to forest and environmental conservation and protection.
