(a) the number of Speed Post Centres functioning in various States including Maharashtra as on date;
(b) whether the Government proposes to set up more such centres across the country including Maharashtra;
(c) if so, the details thereof as on date, State-wise and the steps taken by the Government in this regard; and
(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Madam, Department of Posts, under a new operational arrangement in October, 2010, has changed the nomenclature of Speed Post Centres into National Sorting Hubs and Intra Circle Hubs. As on date there are 89 National Sorting Hubs and 148 Intra Circle Hubs, which are mapped to the National Sorting Hubs.
(b) Yes Madam, Department is examining proposals to set up two more centres in the country.
(c) The details of two such proposals are as follows:
1. Proposal regarding the creation of National Sorting Hub at Dibrugarh in Assam Circle,
2. Proposal regarding the creation of Intra Circle Hub at Dhola in Gujarat Circle.
The Department is examining both these proposals based on the volume of Speed Post articles to be processed, air and surface connectivity and geographical location of these centres.
(d) In view of (c) above, the question does not arise.
