Question : Handloom Mega Clusters


(a) the status of handloom mega clusters set up under Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh; and

(b) the extent to which the above cluster provides assistance for creation of infrastructure, common facilities and other need-based interventions and also technology upgradation and skill development?

(a) & (b): As announced in the Budget 2012-13, Prakasam & Guntur districts (Andhra Pradesh) have been taken up as mega handloom cluster under Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS). Revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the mega handloom cluster was approved in September 2015 with total project cost of Rs.73.57 crore, including GoI share of Rs.70.00 crore. DPR includes implementing of various interventions like Corpus for raw material, Common infrastructure, Block level handloom clusters (i.e. skill up-gradation, setting up of Common Facility Centre, technological up-gradation, product development, engaging Designer & Cluster Development Executive, Construction of worksheds etc). So far, an amount of Rs.14.45 crore has been released for implementing of various interventions in Prakasam & Guntur mega handloom cluster.
