Question : Death of Soldiers

(a) the number of defence personnel martyred in counter-terrorism operations in various parts of the country during the last two years and the current year, State / UT-wise including Uttar Pradesh;

(b) whether the Government has provided compensation including financial assistance to the families of the deceased defence personnel;

(c) if so, the details of the schemes formulated for welfare of the families of deceased defence personnel along with the total amount of compensation paid during the said period;

(d) whether any employment is given to dependents of the deceased soldiers and if so, the details thereof and if not, the cases pending in this regard along with the action proposed to be taken by the Government; and

(e) the preventive measures taken by the Government to counter the intensified attacks by militants?

(b) to (d): The next of kin of martyred soldiers are given compensation as per extant provision in this regard. Details of such compensation is annexed.
As per existing policy the dependent family members of Government servants, both civilian as well as Armed Forces personnel who expire during service including those who are killed in action and those who retire / boarded out on medical grounds are eligible for consideration for compassionate appointment against 5% of direct recruitment quota vacancies in Group ā€˜Cā€™ posts. There is no separate quota for next of kin of martyred armed forces personnel.

(e) The defence personnel have been sensitized on the prevailing security situation and necessity of maintaining high level of alertness. The response mechanism have been reviewed and streamlined. Measures like strengthening security fences, improvement in security lighting, installation of intrusion alarm system with sensors and surveillance are other steps taken to counter such attacks. Further, intelligence infrastructure has been strengthened and re-organised for real time collation & sharing of intelligence.
