Question : Two Laning Projects on NH-66

(a) whether the Government is aware that progress of two laning work on Tindivanam-Krishnagiri section of National Highway No. 66 (new No. 77) has been very slow causing inconvenience to the people for many years;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) the steps taken to expedite the work on that road which is the main link to Tiruvannamalai which attracts lakhs of pilgrims of Arunachaleswarar temple; and

(d) the time by which the said project is likely to be completed?

(a) to (d) Earlier, the work of two-laning of Tindivanam-Krishnagiri Section of NH-66 (New NH-77) in Tamil Nadu was awarded to Concessionaire (M/s Transstory Krishnagiri-Tindivanam Highways Pvt. Ltd.) and was started on 16.04.2012 with scheduled date of completion as 15.04.2014. However, due to Concessionaire’s default, the project was terminated on 03.04.2019. The balance work of this project has again been awarded to M/s S.P.K. & Co. on 29.05.2019 with scheduled completion period of 20 months from date of commencement.
