Question : PRODUCTION OF IRON ORE



(a) whether the Government has made any estimation of the iron ore produced from each mine during each of the last three years;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the value of iron ore exported out of its total production;

(c) whether there are sufficient reserve of iron ore in the country; and

(d) if so, the total estimated difference in export and import of iron ore in terms of value?

(a) & (b): As per available information, production of iron ore and value of iron ore exported for the last three years given below:-

(c): India has sufficient resources of iron ore, estimated at 25.25 billion tonnes, which continues to increase. Reserves, which are a function of detailed exploration, are estimated at 7.21 billion tonnes.

(d): The total estimated difference in value of iron ore exported and imported (up to February 2007) for the year 2006-07 is Rs. 5680 crore.
