Question : PM S COUNCIL ON CLIMATE CHANGE



(a) whether the Government has reconstituted the Prime Minister`s Council on Climate Change;

(b) if so, the composition of the newly constituted council;

(c) the work performed by the council since its inception; and

(d) the measures being taken by the Government to make it more effective?

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR ENVIRONMENT, FORESTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR)

(a)& (b) The Government has reconstituted the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change (PMCCC) on November 3, 2014. The composition of the reconstituted council is atAnnexure.

(c) & (d) The PMCCC has released National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) on June 30, 2008. Mission documents under NAPCC were approved by PMCCC during 2010& 2011. Further, PMCCC constituted the Executive Committee on Climate Change (ECCC) under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Prime Minister in January 2013, which was reconstituted in November 2014, to assist in evolving a coordinated response to issues relating to climate change at the national level and to monitor the implementation of the eight National Missions and other initiatives under the NAPCC.
