Question : LOANS TO SC STUDENTS

(a) whether the amount of scholarship disbursed to Scheduled Caste students staying in hostels is inadequate to cover the expenses of such students;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the corrective steps proposed to be taken in this regard; and

(c) the details of education loans provided to Scheduled Caste students by the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise, particularly for Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan?

(a) & (b) Post Martic Scholarship for Scheduled Caste students (PMS-SC) has been revised w.e.f. 01.07.2010 which included upward revision of maintenance and other allowances for hostellers also. The increase in Consumer Price Index for industrial workers has been, inter-alia, taken into consideration while revising the allowances for Scheduled Caste students.

(c) State/UT-wise details of education loans provided to Scheduled Caste students by the National Scheduled Castes Finance & Development Corporation (NSFDC) during the last three years and the current year including Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are at Annexure.
