Question : Sainik Schools in Telangana

(a) the number of Sainik schools that have been opened since 2014, year-wise and State-wise;
(b) the reasons for not opening any new Sainik School in Telangana;
(c) whether any communication has been sent to the State Government of Telangana regarding opening of the Sainik school; and
(d) if so, the response received in this regard?

(a) 09 Sainik Schools have been opened since 2014. Year-wise and State wise details of Sainik Schools opened since 2014 is placed at Annexure.
(b) to (d): Sainik Schools under the existing pattern are established at the request of State Governments. State Govt of Telangana had requested for establishment of Sainik School at Warangal district on the erstwhile pattern of Sainik Schools based on which an in-principle approval was accorded and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between Government of Telangana and Sainik Schools Society. Further to that, no communication with respect to completion of infrastructure facilities has been received from Government of Telangana, thereafter.

Meanwhile, the Government approved the initiative for setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools in partnership mode with NGOs/Private Schools/State Governments in a graded manner class-wise, starting from Class 6 onward. Based on applications received in this regard, ‘Telangana Social Welfare Residential School’ (TSWRS) located in Karimnagar district of Telangana has been approved as New Sainik School subject to signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by the TSWRS with the Sainik Schools Society.
