(a) to (d) Water being a State subject, initiatives on water conservation including planning/creation of artificial recharge structures and check dams is primarily States’ responsibility. Functionality and maintenance of check dams also falls under the purview of respective State Governments.
As per information received from M/o Rural Development, 7355 check dams have been built under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) since inception in the State of Jharkhand. State-wise details of number of check dams built under MGNREGS are given at Annexure.
