Question : USE OF KULHAR, KHADI IN RAILWAYS



(a) whether the Railways have decided to subsidise the use of Kulhar and Khadi and also remove the ban on sale of cold drinks in trains/stations as appeared in Dainik Jagran dated June 15, 2005;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons for such move;

(c) whether the Railways are incurring losses due to use of Kulhar, Khadi and ban on sale of cold drinks since the introduction of these items in Railways;

(d) if so, the losses incurred by the Railways therefrom zone-wise; and

(e) the Railways zones where the scheme has remained unsuccessful ?

(a) Railways do not subsidise use of Kulhar and Khadi. They are purchased at rates prevalent in the market. No ban was imposed on the sale of cold drinks in the trains/stations.

(b) to (d) : Do not arise.

(e) Use of Kulhar and Khadi are eco-friendly and by and large popular over Indian Railways.
