Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS (SHRI SANTOSH KUMAR GANGWAR)

(a)to(d): The reported gas seepage, from the tube-well site at village Dhokari Kachchar in Phulpur Tehsil of Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh was investigated by a team of geo-scientists from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC). The analysis of the said gas revealed that it comprises mainly methane with subordinate amount of carbon di-oxide and nitrogen gas and is devoid of higher hydrocarbons. The gas seepage is localised, is of biogenic origin and has no significance from hydrocarbon exploration point of view. Of the two other tube wells bored in the vicinity of the site, one tube well is producing water and the second tube well is dry.
