Question : Strength of Officers in RAW and IB

(a) whether the current strength of officers at Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) is not sufficient to cater the risky works pertaining to the collection, assimilation and analysis of vital information from within the country as well as from the countries abroad;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to bridge the gap between work load and staff strength in both IB and RAW?

Answer given by the minister

(a) to (c): The occurrence of vacancies and their filling up is an ongoing process. The number keeps on varying depending on the induction, promotion, retirement and repatriation, etc., of the officers. With effective use and optimal deployment of existing personnel, the vacancies have not affected the functioning of the R&AW and Intelligence Bureau. It is the continuous endeavour of the Central Government as well as these Organisations to fill up vacant posts expeditiously.
