(a). The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched on 25 June, 2015 in 500 selected cities and towns across the country with the purpose to ensure that every household in the selected cities has access to a tap with assured supply of water and substantial improvement of sewerage connection. The Mission focuses on development of urban infrastructure in these cities in the sectors of water supply; sewerage and septage
management; storm water drainage; green spaces and parks; and non-motorized urban transport. Mission also mandates a set of 11 Reforms for all the Mission cities and Capacity Building activities for the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

(b). Thirty-one cities/towns of Gujarat have been selected under AMRUT. List of these cities is given at the Annexure.

(c) & (d). All cities / towns having population of one lakh and above as per 2011 census, all capital cities/towns of all States/Union Territories (UTs) irrespective of their population, all heritage cities/towns covered under Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY), thirteen cities/towns on the stem of the main rivers with a population above 75,000and less than 1 lakh and ten cities from hill states, islands and tourist destinations, have been covered under AMRUT.

AMRUT being an urban infrastructure development scheme, villages do not come under the purview of the Mission.
