(e) whether the Government is intending to bifurcate or merge Trivandrum and Madurai divisions in Southern Railway; and

(a): No, Sir.

(b): New zones on Indian Railways are created keeping in view the factors like size, workload, accessibility, traffic patterns and other operational/administrative requirements consistent with the needs of economy and efficiency. The proposal for creation of new Railway Zone in Kerala, when examined from these aspects, has not been found feasible.

(c) & (d): Requests for formation of a new railway zone in Kerala have been received from time to time from various fora including Government of Kerala and Members of Parliament.

(e): No, Sir.

(f): Does not arise.
