Question : REVISED PATTERN OF CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION



(a) whether the Government has allowed two additional attempts to all categories of candidates with effect from Civil Services Examinations 2014;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the revised pattern of examination for civil services has been criticised for its discrimination against those aspirants who are proficient in regional languages;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(e) the corrective steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. The Government has provided 2 additional attempts and consequential age relaxation to all categories of candidates for the Civil Services Examinations (CSE) 2014 in the wake of changes made in syllabus of CSE.
With the above changes, the total number of attempts available to various categories of candidates now is as under:-

 Categories 
Consequential changes UR SC/ST OBC P.H. in Number of attempts. 06 Unlimited 09 09 for General/OBC & Unlimited for SC/ST

(c) to (e): The Government has been receiving certain representations from various quarters in this regard.
The Government is seized of the matter.
