(b) if so, the details and the time by which it is likely to be conducted?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI MANIKRAO H. GAVIT)

(a) & (b): The information on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has been collected at each decennial census since 1951, for meeting the Constitutional requirements. The date on other religious communities has been collected at each census, as the determination of SC status is contingent upon the religion being professed by the individuals. Since post-independence period, no caste-based census of the population has been undertaken as per the decision of the Government in 1951 and this has been the position so far.
