Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(DR. SATYA PAL SINGH)

(a) to (f) : The self financed colleges imparting vocational education under various streams
are under the purview of various regulatory authorities under different departments and
therefore data in respect of vocational colleges is not centrally maintained.
However, University Grants Commission (UGC) is implementing three schemes
namely Community College, B.Voc. Degree Programme & DDU KAUSHAL Kendras in
Universities and colleges imparting skill based vocational courses. A list of 31 existing self
financing institutions approved by UGC along with their approved course on self-financed
mode is placed at Annexure- A. The student enrolment in these self-financed vocational
colleges is not maintained by UGC.
All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) grants approval to institutions
only after verifying about their adherence to the norms and standards prescribed in its
Approval Process Handbook. If such institutes seek permission to close, the same is
considered and allowed by AICTE after transfer of students to nearby AICTE approved
institutions. However, no such cases have been reported so far.
