Question : COAL RESERVES



(a) whether about 1000 million tonnes of coal reserves in Chintalapudi sub-basin in district of Krishna and West Godavari have been found as per Paleontological Society of India and confirmed by Geological Survey of India and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the quality of coal reserve is better than many coal mines, including Singareni and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to extend all the help and assistance to Andhra Pradesh to extract this fossil fuel for power generation in Andhra Pradesh; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) : As per Geological Survey of India ( GSI), the total coal resources in Andhra Pradesh falling in the districts of Krishna and West Godavari as on 1/4/2014 was 1030.87 Million Tonnes whose details are furnished in the table below. The grade of coal occurring in these areas of Andhra Pradesh is similar to that of coal in Singareni Collieries Company Limited.

(c) & (d): Coal exploration is a continuous process. As and when the detailed exploration is carried out in these areas the mineablility of the reserves could be established for taking up projects subsequently.
