Question : BUYING OF PETROLEUM PRODCUTS BY PRIVATE COMPANIES



(a) whether several companies buy petroleum products for export;

(b) whether the companies who have been permitted to buy these products on quota system cross international barriers by selling to other companies for advantage of export / import policies;

(c) if so, whether any action has been taken against such companies;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): As per information available, oil companies are not buying petroleum products for export. However, indigenously produced petroleum products, which cannot be absorbed locally, are being exported by the oil companies.

(b): As per the EXIM policy, Oil companies enjoy duty draw back benefit in the form of Advance License enabling duty free import of crude oil against export of petroleum products. No misuse of this benefit has come to the attention of this Ministry.

(c) to (e): Do not arise in view of (a) and (b) above.
