(a) whether the Union Government has taken steps to encourage the poultry sector in the North Eastern States, especially in Sikkim;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the funds provided for the purpose during the last three years and the current financial year; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Yes, Sir.
(b): During last three years, an amount of Rs.1703.10 lakhs has been released to the North Eastern States, including Rs.85.00 lakhs to Sikkim under the `Centrally Sponsored Scheme Assistance to State Poultry/Duck Farms`. During 2006-07, an amount of Rs.745.00 lakhs has been released to the North Eastern States, including Rs.120.00 lakhs to Sikkim under the said scheme.
(c): Question does not arise.
