Question : FUNDS FOR VILLAGE WATER SUPPLY



(a) whether the Union Government has implemented multi-village water scheme in the country;

(b)if so, the details of implementation of the scheme, State-wise; and

(c) the fund is allocated, released and utilised under the scheme during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise?

(a)& (b) Drinking Water supply is a State subject. The Government of India provides financial and technical assistance to States under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) to supplement their efforts to provide adequate safe drinking water to the rural population. Under the NRDWP, the State Governments are vested with the powers to plan, execute and implement drinking water supply schemes. States have been delegated with the powers to select the size of the rural water supply schemes andnumber of habitations /villages to be covered . As per information entered bythe States on the online Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) of the Ministry, the details of multi village schemes in the country are at Annexure.

(c) Under NRDWP, scheme wise allocation of funds to a State is not made . However, as per information entered bythe States/UTs on IMIS , the number of multi- village schemes and the expenditure incurred on them during the last three years are at Annexure.
