Question : Violence in West Bengal

(a) whether incidents of bomb blasts/violence have been reported from different parts of West Bengal;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the number of persons who died in the said incidents;

(c) whether there are reports that the Madrassas in West Bengal are preaching religious extremism and helping the terrorist organisations;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Union Government thereto;

(e) whether the Union Government has issued advisory to the State Government to check the deteriorating law and order situation during post election violence in the State; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and the steps being taken by the Union Government in this regard ?

(a) to (f): Information has been received about a number of incidents of violence before, during and after the General Election-2019 resulting in deaths and injuries to several people including political workers in West

Bengal. Concern on the issue was shared by Government with the State Government and an advisory was issued on 09.06.2019 asking the State Government to maintain law and order, peace and public tranquillity in the State.

There are some inputs of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh using some Madrasas in Burdwan and Murshidabad for radicalization and recruitment activities. Relevant inputs in this regard are regularly shared with the State Governments and agencies concerned with the advice to take appropriate action. Government has notified Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen India or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan and all its manifestations as a Terrorist Organization on 23.05.2019 in terms of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
