Question : Ranking of Institutes

(a) whether the Government is proposing or plans to introduce ranking of educational
institutes;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, whether the Government shall consider the same to encourage the performing
educational institutes;
(d) whether the Government accept/acknowledges the rankings of few reputed survey
agencies; and
(e) if so, the details thereof; and
(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development has
already launched National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in September, 2015.
The first Ranking of educational institutions in the country was launched in April, 2016
using this Framework. Under NIRF, the institutes are ranked on the basis of their score
on a set five (5) parameters namely:
i) Teaching, Learning & Resources
ii) Research and Professional Practice
iii) Graduation Outcomes
iv) Outreach and Inclusivity
v) Perception.

(d) to (f): The Government takes note of some of the reputed international rankings such as
Times Higher Education World University Rankings and QS World University Rankings.
