(a),(b),(c)(d) and (e): A Statement is laid on the Table of the Lok Sabha.
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 539 FOR 03.05.2000 REGARDING COLLABORATION WITH NRIs.
(a) and (b): A Select Group of NRIs has been set up under the Chairmanship of Minsiter of Information Technology. The objectives of this group are to:- - keep the Minsitry of Information Technology abreast with the latest developments taking place in the world of Information Technology and also the market trends in this regard. - advise in the formulation of policies in the area of Information Technology and strengthening of telecommunciation infrastructure vis-a-vis Information Technology policies and the specific targets laid by the Government. - advise the Ministry of Information Technology with regard to facilitation of angel investment, venture creation and incubation facilities. - advise inthe matter of human resource development in the area of information technology with focus on IT education and IT-based education and promotion of knowledge-based enterprises. - Assist in creation of poool of expertise and foster research and development activities in select areas. (c): The inter actions with the members of the Select Group would help in identifying key growth areas in the area of information technology.
(d): No data is maintained by the Government in respect of Indian Computer professionals who had migrated from India.
(e): The migration of computer professionals from India is largely because of better employment opportunities abroad. Government policy is to encourage software development and hardware manufacturing in the country with the motto `Move works to India`. Various measures are being taken from time to time in this regard so that there is creation of wealth and economic growth leading to better employment opportunities within the country. This will discourage computer professionals from migrating abroad.
