Question : Aadhaar Card

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has issued Aadhaar card to every citizen of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government proposes to modify Aadhaar card; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

(a) and (b): No Sir. As per Section 3(1) of the Aadhaar Act 2016, every resident is entitled to obtain an Aadhaar number by submitting his demographic and biometric information by undergoing the process of enrolment. Enrolment is an ongoing process and voluntary in nature. As on 31st October 2019, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had issued Aadhaar to over 89% of the estimated population of 2019.

(c): No, Sir.

(d): Not applicable in view of (c) above.
