(a) to (c) The Government of India has conceptualized an umbrella programme namely Bharatmala Pariyojana for development of highways across the country which includes development of border roads, international connectivity roads, coastal roads, port connectivity roads, ring roads, removal of choke points, logistic parks, economic corridors, inter corridors, feeder routes and expressways.
Under the Phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojana 24,800 km of roads are proposed for development in the next five years i.e. 2017-18 to 2021-22 at an overall investment of around Rs 5,35,000 crore. The details of the first phase of Bharatmala Pariyojana, which also include projects in West Bengal and North Eastern Region, are provided in the table below:

(d) to (e) It is an estimate that 4076 mandays of work is created for every km of road constructed. In addition, a road project has a force multiplier effect on the economy that results in creation of indirect employment.
