Question : HOSTELS FOR SC STUDENTS



(a) whether the Adivasi Rural Development Society for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste, Koduman, Kerala has been applying for grant-in-aid for running a hostel for the last five years;

(b) if so, the details thereof and reasons for not considering the same;

(c) the details of other organizations applied for grant-in-aid for running hostels for SC students in Kerala;

(d) the number of applications out of them approved/rejected by the Union Government during the last three years, till date; and

(e) the total amount sanctioned/released in this regard during the same period?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT (SMT. SUBBULAKSHMI JAGADEESAN)

(a) No Sir. This Ministry has not received any such proposal through State Govt. of Kerala with recommendation. However, Ministry of Tribal Affairs has received a proposal of the organization for grant in aid for setting up Scheduled Tribe Hostel under the Scheme of Grant in aid to voluntary organizations working for the Scheduled Tribes.

(b) The proposal of the organization was considered by the `Project Screening Committee to examine and recommend proposals of Non-Governmental organizations for sanction of new projects` in its meeting held on 13-14 November, 2002, and the said Committee did not recommend the proposal.

(c) This Ministry has not received any proposal from any other organization through the State Govt. of Kerala for setting up hostel for SC students in Kerala.
