Question : DILAPIDATED CONDITION OF NATIONAL HIGHWAYS



(a) the details of the schemes and targets to improve the dilapidated condition of Hazipur-Muzzaffarpur-Sitamarhi-Sonvarsha road after upgrading it as a National Highway and to repair the damaged bridges and road as per the criteria fixed for the National Highways;

(b) the details of schemes and targets for improving the dilapidated condition of Muzzaffarpur-Motihari National Highway and Muzzaffarpur-Darbhanga (L.R.P.) roads; and (

(c) the present status regarding construction of roads of Buddhist circuits in Vaishali, Muzzaffarpur and eastern Champaran as well as Vaishali-Sariya-Paru-Sahebganj and Keseria in Bihar State ?

(a) to (c) The Ministry of Surface Transport is responsible for National Highways only. All other roads Vaishali, the roads of the Buddhist circuit is the concern of the State Government.

Development of National Highways is a continuous activity. Development works are undertaken depending upon need, intensity of traffic, inter-se priority on all India basis and availability of funds.

Hazipur-Muzzaffarpur-Sitamarhi-Sonvarsha road is part of National Highway-77. The work for construction of two high level bridges in replacement of existing submersible causeways on NH-77 are in progress. In addition six works amounting to Rs. 8.82 crore for development of this National Highway stand sanctioned.

For improvement of Muzzaffarpur-Motihari section of National Highway, 3 works amounting to Rs. 9.15 crore are in progress. In addition, one estimate for Rs. 1.85 crore for improvement stand sanctioned. For Muzzaffarpur-Darbhanga section of National Highway 57, three estimates amounting to Rs. 3.03 crore stand sanctioned.
