Question : SETTING UP OF WIND POWER UNITS



(a) the number of wind power units set up in the country, State-wise;

(b) the total capacity generated during 2000-2001 and proposed to be generated during the next three years;

(c) how does it is compare with the advanced States like Denmark in the field of wind energy generation;

(d) whether any special efforts made to install more wind power energy generators in the coastal areas, especially in Andhra Pradesh which is most suitable for wind energy generation; and

(e) is so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): An aggregate wind power capacity of 1167 MW was installed in the country upto 31st March, 2000. A further capacity of 16 MW has so far been added during 2000-2001. State-wise installed capacity is given in the Annexure. A target of 1000 MW capacity addition has been fixed for the 9th Five Year Plan.

(c): India ranks fifth in the world in wind power installations, after Germany, USA, Denmark, and Spain. A capacity of about 1750 MW has been installed in Denmark.

(d)&(e): 192 potential sites, including those in the coastal areas, have been identified for wind power projects in 13 States/UTs. Out of these, 29 sites are in Andhra Pradesh. Wind power projects are mainly being set up as commercial projects through private investments. A capacity of 88 MW has already been set up in Andhra Pradesh. Another 44 MW capacity is under installation.
