Question : Policy Sale by Department of Posts

(a) whether the Department of Posts proposes to sell the products of other insurance companies particularly in rural areas apart from selling its own policies in view of less propogation of insurance in rural India and its immense potential;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Department of Posts proposes to sell policy products like crop insurance, accident insurance, agricultural equipment insurance in rural areas apart from life insurance and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the total number of post offices in Rajasthan including Jalor and Sirohi districts as well as Maharashtra including most drought affected of Marathwada and Latur districts added under the scheme?

(a) & (b) There is no proposal in Department of Posts to sell the products of other insurance companies particularly in rural areas apart from selling its own Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policies.

(c) Department of Posts sells Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), which is an accident insurance scheme of Government of India. There is no proposal in Department of Posts to sell other policy products like crop insurance, agricultural equipment insurance in rural areas apart from life insurance.

(d) The total number of post offices in Rajasthan including Jalore and Sirohi districts as well as in Maharashtra including Marathwada and Latur districts that sell PMSBY are 1278 and 2179 respectively.
